Trivalent Anaerobic Percolator

Civil Wastewater Treatment

Trivalent Anaerobic Percolator

Imhoff Tank + Anaerobic Percolator Filter

Type C (Emilia Romagna - Friuli Venezia Giulia)
in precast concrete - complete with polypropylene Filter Media

Features and Operating Principle

The "Type C" Anaerobic Percolator Trivalent System (Imhoff Tank + "Type C" Anaerobic Percolator Filter) is a compact system designed to facilitate excavation, installation, and connection works.
The purification process for this type of natural wastewater treatment occurs through the combined action of sewage clarification (primary sedimentation and sludge digestion) taking place in the first stage (Imhoff Tank) and the degradation of organic matter occurring in the second stage (Anaerobic Percolator Filter) via the action of bacterial colonies that develop as films on suitable supports (polypropylene Filling Materials). The functions and characteristics of the anaerobic trickling compartment are the same as those described for the individual treatment on the previous pages.
It is a technological system with zero energy consumption.
The sizing of the trickling compartment includes a filter mass calculated using the formula S=N/H².

Regulations

Emilia Romagna Regional Resolution No. 1053/03,
Umbria Regional Council Resolution of May 7, 2019, No. 627,
Friuli Venezia Giulia Regional Guidelines L.G.40.02-E2 of 07/06/2019.

Technology

For every residential dwelling and production activity involving meal preparation and dishwashing, it is good practice to provide separate drainage lines for toilet waste (blackwater) from those for sinks, showers, bidets, washing machines, dishwashers, and glasswashers (greywater).
Blackwater must be conveyed directly into the Imhoff tank, while greywater containing oils, fats, and detergents must be conveyed first into a static grease trap and subsequently into the Imhoff tank or directly into the public sewer system if connected to a municipal treatment plant.

Fields of Application

Civil plants, slaughterhouses, cured meat factories, wineries, dairies, food industries, canning industries, pasta factories, confectionery products, fish industries, laundries and dry cleaners, residential housing, apartment buildings, restaurants, hotels, hospitals, communities, canteens, catering, schools, bars, campsites, bathing establishments, motorway service areas, meal production centers.

Sizing

SIZING FOR POPULATION EQUIVALENT CALCULATION
Sizing of Grease Traps and Imhoff Tanks, calculation of POPULATION EQUIVALENT (P.E.).
In residential dwellings as well as in production or service activities, it would be necessary to evaluate the actual sewage production to be disposed of in order to correctly size the Imhoff tanks. Since this is practically impossible, reference must be made to the number of Population Equivalents (P.E.), a standardized unit of measurement, which can be determined as follows:
Sizing of concrete Grease Traps and Imhoff Tanks for:
- RESIDENTIAL HOUSING - bedroom count:
1 P.E. for bedrooms with a surface area up to 13.90 sqm
2 P.E. for bedrooms with a surface area exceeding 14 sqm
Sizing of concrete Grease Traps and Imhoff Tanks for:
- HOTELS OR ACCOMMODATION FACILITIES - same as for residential housing;
add 1 P.E. for every 6 sqm increase in room surface area beyond the initial 14 sqm;
for holiday homes or special situations where seasonal use allows for high occupancy density, reference should be made to the maximum effective foreseeable potential.
Sizing of concrete Grease Traps and Imhoff Tanks for:
- FACTORIES OR ARTISAN WORKSHOPS
1 P.E. for every 2 employees, permanent or seasonal, during peak activity.
Sizing of concrete Grease Traps and Imhoff Tanks for:
- COMPANIES, COMMERCIAL OFFICES, SHOPS
1 P.E. for every 3 employees, permanent or seasonal, during peak activity.
Sizing of concrete Grease Traps and Imhoff Tanks for:
- RESTAURANTS AND TRATTORIAS - to calculate the population equivalent, it is necessary to quantify the maximum seating capacity of the dining rooms, considering that one person occupies approximately 1.20 sqm;
add the staff to the number of customers;
1 P.E. for every 3 people resulting from this calculation.
Sizing of concrete Grease Traps and Imhoff Tanks for:
- BARS, CLUBS, AND ASSOCIATIONS - same as the previous point but calculating 1 P.E. for every 7 people.
Sizing of concrete Grease Traps and Imhoff Tanks for:
- CINEMAS, STADIUMS, THEATRES - 1 P.E. corresponds to every thirty users.
Sizing of concrete Grease Traps and Imhoff Tanks for:
- SCHOOLS AND GYMS - 1 P.E. corresponds to every 10 attendees calculated on maximum potential. Special cases must be evaluated on a case-by-case basis (contact our technical office).
Note: After calculating the number of Population Equivalents, it is necessary to check with local competent authorities (A.R.P.A., Province, HERA) to determine the type of system to be installed.
The water supply to be calculated can vary from 100 L to 250 L for each Population Equivalent, based on local regulations and the type of activity.
